Montpelier Sewage Leak Fixed Today

Friday, July 9th 2010 06:00

Bristol City Council say work to solve the issue should be completed by the end of the day.

Local residents on Richmond Road have had to put up with the foul stench from the leaking sewage since June.

The pungent smell has been coming from a private property on the street. When people complained Bristol City Council served a legal notice to the owner to sort the problem which expired on Monday 5 July.

Council officers and contractors returned to the property on Monday to discover nothing had be done to solve the issue. It's thought the owner maybe abroad.

The authority has now taken action to fix the leak themselves and will then charge the owner for the work.

The road has been closed whilst officers replace the broken drain. However, it's expected to be fully completed by this afternoon.
