The funeral cortege arrives at Westerleigh Crematorium

The funeral of grandfather Barry Rubery has taken place near Bristol.

Hundreds of friends and family gathered at Westerleigh Crematorium in Yate to pay their respects this lunchtime. 

The 68-year-old was brutally killed at his home, Crossing Cottage on the Latteridge Road in Iron Acton, following a night out with friends at the end of April.

His son and daughter, Philip and Julie Rubery released this statement:

"Today is one of the most difficult days for all of the family; we simply cannot put into words how it feels to say goodbye to a much loved dad, and granddad.

"To lose our father in this way is just unimaginable and our devastation is beyond belief. Everyday is a struggle, and our lives will never be the same again.

"The whole families' lives have been turned upside down by those people who brutally took our dad from us nearly three months ago.  Those people have still not come forward.  We would once again urge you to hand yourselves in and allow us to understand why we lost dad in this way.

"We would also ask anyone out there who has any information to think about how hard today is for all of us and come forward.  All we want now are answers to allow us to continue to grieve.  Thank you".

Investigations remain ongoing into the death of Mr Rubery, and police are once again urging anyone with information to contact them.  Detective Chief Inspector Garry Reeves said: 

"Officers are still working to identify that one piece of information that may provide a breakthrough.  At this stage I would once again urge anyone with information to come forward and talks to us.  I can assure you this will be treated in confidence.

"There are questions that still remain un-answered.  Who was driving a dark coloured Land Rover defender vehicle and a black pick up truck near to Crossing Cottage on the night that Mr Rubery died?  What happened to the property that was taken from his house?  I would urge anyone who may be able to help answer those questions to contact us.

"We are determined to solve this crime and bring those people responsible for this callous crime to justice."
